We were appointed by the Belvedere Trust as architects for a new six storey building housing a 235 seat theatre. Internally, the design arranges accommodation in three distinct parts – a ground floor with front of house facilities, a three floor theatre and a multi-use top floor with rehearsal space and areas for use by community groups, exhibitions and interpretive events.

The site of this theatre includes part of the site of the original The Theatre, Shoreditch. Dating from 1576, this was London’s first purpose built playhouse. This unique heritage is reflected in our design through the installation of a permanent exhibition of artefacts found at the site and a three dimensional oak central bay in the façade of the design.
