Great Hall replaces the Leys School’s existing theatre with a complex that is a step change up in size, aspiration and quality from its predecessor. Though its footprint is not quite double that of the previous building, Great Hall’s internal floor area is over three times greater than that of the old theatre. In addition to a dramatic, yet flexible, auditorium and associated backstage areas, a number of new elements are included: studio theatre, drama teaching department, dance department including bespoke studio, three new state-of-the-art science laboratories with external teaching roof terrace, and a coffee shop. Our aim has been to design a collection of components that work harmoniously together: a vibrant conjunction of arts and sciences.
