We provided an additional floor of accommodation on top of the four-storey Cripps Court building, containing tutorial and seminar rooms, fellows’ sets and 18 student bedsitting rooms.

The structure of the extension was built from galvanised steel purlins, which supported insulated metal composite roofing panels. This meant the additional storey was both lightweight and quick to build, with the application of external zinc roof and wall cladding and the internal fit-out occurring concurrently.

Solar shading and passive stack ventilation control summertime overheating within the building.

The dry construction had to meet stringent air-tightness performance requirements, high levels of thermal insulation and acoustic isolation of each tutorial room and study bedroom.
