In the Lyon Court project, we had to juggle a restricted site and neighbouring buildings of very differing styles. The College’s brief called for a design to complete, rather than compete with, the original Modernist Cripps Court, and our competition winning scheme does just that. We took inspiration from Powell and Moya’s earlier building while at the same time paying homage to the other neighbour, the red-roofed Fisher Building.

Housing a sports building above an underground car park, the scheme was described by architecture correspondent Charles Knevitt as having “elegance and panache”.
