BIM, or in full Building Information Modelling, is the process of creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle, from conception through to building operation and management.
The process can have a number of benefits both to the design team and the client, both pre and post construction. The use of BIM reduces asset costs and achieves a greater operational efficiency, facilitates construction by improving supply chains and limiting error on site as well as allowing early analysis of the design and its environment via the interrogation and extraction of information.
We adopted ArchiCAD as our primary drafting software in 2011 and since then have been working with it towards BIM level 2. Via the standards set out in PAS 1192:2 and BS 1192-4, we are able to exchange data with other consultants and contractors by means of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and if required, run clash detection in-house.
In layman’s terms we are capable of sharing coordinated data across the design team, producing 2D and 3D drawings, and providing detailed facilities running information to the client.
