Founded in 1896 St Edmund’s College, with about 350 students, is one of Cambridge’s friendliest Colleges with undergraduates, graduates and fellows mixing freely to enjoy an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Students and fellows engage in study and research across a full range of subjects. The College is noted for its strongly international community, and for the sporting accomplishments of its members at both college and university level.
We were appointed in 1999 to implement to first phase of an extensive master plan for the College which has resulted in buildings that effectively doubled the College in size by 2007.
From the first, our aim has been to develop an architecture which grows naturally out of the Victorian details of the original establishment and preserves, as much as possible, its friendly, non-institutional character and the surrounding landscape.
To date we have completed four buildings housing a total of 139 graduates and undergraduates in a wide variety of room types. Our work also includes a new Library, Meeting Room and ancillary facilities.
Phases 2 & 3 were formally opened by His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on 8th October 2007.
We are currently engaged in planning the next phases.
