The refurbishment and extension of the Cambridge University ADC Theatre began in 2003 with the first of four phases of work.

This has transformed the public spaces with a new entrance and box office, enlarged bar and disabled access to the first floor auditorium. The remodelled façade and foyer gives the theatre a much stronger presence on the street.

There have also been radical improvements to back stage facilities with new offices, a clubroom and one of the few control rooms that is served by a lift, enabling disabled users to participate in lighting and sound.

The final phase was completed in October 2008 and formally opened by Sir Peter Hall. This element includes new dressing rooms, a rehearsal room, a workshop and an enlarged stage. The auditorium has also been reseated and upgraded. In all, the contracts have totalled £2 million.
