We were appointed in 2002 to create a new Porters' Lodge and used the opportunity to design a gatehouse for the College - a building which turns the corner into the main entrance and is fringed by planting. The Porters' Lodge is an extension to Oldham Hall and had to be set into the ground in order to address existing floor levels. This required a careful landscaping strategy to ensure accessibility for all students. Our aim was to soften and humanise the existing structure and provide a light and attractive introduction to the College, as well as a flexible and modern working environment for the Porters and academic staff. |
