In early 2010, we were successful in winning a limited invitation competition for the optimum redevelopment of the Boathouse and graduate accommodation at 28 Ferry Path. Subsequently, the College reconsidered the brief deciding to retain and refurbish 28 Ferry Path. The design envisages the rebuild of the Boathouse on the same footprint, to maximise boat storage and increase changing and dry training facilities on the first floor level. A new balcony with only internal access embraces a crew room located over the side boathouse. |
A simple palette of materials of soft red brick and clay plain tiles reflects the existing building. The roof, clad in prepatinated copper, features natural ventilation terminals, a clock tower, weather vane and flagpole together with combinations of northern lights for daylight and solar thermal panels for hot water. |
