We were appointed as architects for Christ's College's boathouse in May 2009 following a two stage design competition.

Our approach to the design brief was to retain the original two storey building, a timber and rendered frame on a brick plinth, whilst extending the boathouse from boundary to boundary. This provided the footprint at first floor level for crew changing and training, boatman's office and a crew/alumni room.

Passive stack natural ventilation is proposed with solar shading and solar collecting panels. The balcony will be reinstated across the width of the river frontage.

Planning permission was granted in 2011.
