In our quest for quality we embrace the physical and technological performance of buildings. It is generally accepted that global warming is due to rising atmospheric concentrations of ‘greenhouse’ gases , most importantly carbon dioxide and methane, which as architects we respond to by creating buildings that are energy efficient, socially responsible and sensitive to location. We consider passive measures such as optimising building orientation and location as well as its flexibility, form, structure and exposure. In addition active measures, such as heating, cooling and ventilation systems, are used together with appropriate materials to limit the impact upon the energy required to build and run it. By identifying issues and finding design solutions in close collaboration with specialists, we mitigate the problems and create sustainable buildings of the future. |
