Peterhouse:
The Master’s Lodge at Peterhouse owes its origin to a bachelor Fellow, Dr Charles Beaumont, who built it in 1702. It is one of the finest 18th Century houses in Cambridge. It owes much of its quality, particularly its fine joinery, to the revolution effected in Cambridge by Sir Christopher Wren in the 17th Century.
We were appointed in 1993 to undertake a phased restoration of the Master’s Lodge, a Grade I listed building. The work involved the removal of recent additions, the provisions of new kitchens and bathrooms, and the replacement of all services.

Homerton College:
A development plan for the College led to a new Dance Studio, Learning Research Centre and Mathematics Building. We also designed a new house for the Principal, which refers back to the original College in form and detail.
Ridley Hall:
A development plan for this theological college led to new residential accommodation and access improvements. The next phase is for new teaching facilities. All of the projects respect the original buildings, but develop them in different ways.

We were appointed in 2002 to create a new Porters’ Lodge and used the opportunity to design a gatehouse for the College - a building which turns the corner into the main entrance and is fringed by planting. The Porters' Lodge is an extension to Oldham Hall, and had to be set into the ground in order to address existing floor levels. This required a careful landscaping strategy to ensure accessibility for all students.
Our aim was to soften and humanise the existing structure in the position and provide a light and attractive introduction to the College, as well as a flexible and modern working environment for the Porters and academic staff.
