| Wolfson Court was designed by David Roberts and Geoffrey Clarke in 1970 and comprises a complete college in miniature. | |
| In 1989 Bland, Brown & Cole won a competition to extend the original buildings with a new court comprising thirty-two bedsitting rooms, two Fellows’ flats and a library complex. | |

The residential accommodation is organised in two terraces of three ‘houses’, each having a shared kitchen, common room, and laundry, with the bedsitting rooms designed for maximum flexibility as either single or double rooms, on their own or linked to their neighbour. They are fully serviced with a walk-in duct space which enables the addition of kitchen and bath units. |
| Shared facilities are on half-levels to the rear of each wing, including a semi-basement, and the common rooms at the rear. | |
| The central building is divided into two sections, a Law and a General Library, with dual use for lectures. It takes the form off a double-height space with exposed roof trusses and study galleries overlooking the libraries below, bridging the central entrance. | |
| The whole is designed to develop and complement the spirit of the earlier buildings and to use timber, in particular, to provide ‘warm’ interiors within a clearly-defined structure which is suffused with controlled natural light. The intention is that the new court should represent a less institutional, friendlier way of life in buildings which are still within the rational pragmatist tradition of the original. | |
| “The Architects have designed a collegiate environment in which it will be a pleasure to live. Both they and Girton College can be justly proud.” | |
