The Fitzpatrick Hall was designed as part of the new Lyon Court and completed in January 1990.
(l-r) flat floor, studio theatre, standard theatre
At the time of construction it was the most flexible and technically sophisticated college hall of its day. Its flexibility means it can be used as a sports hall, function room and auditorium with two completely different types of theatre.
hall with retracted seating The main auditorium has retractable seating and viewing galleries and can accommodate an audience of 210. The stage can be raised and lowered in five different configurations and separated from the rest of the hall to become a theatre in the round.
Amongst other innovations, there is a large control room and continuous technical gallery with a lighting bridge that can be lowered from the ceiling and the whole is thoroughly insulated to keep noise out and in and provide a dry acoustic biased towards speech.
